Mentoring Question – December 2012

ASK

Are you connected to deep friendships?

WHY

Jesus lived, loved, served and suffered in the context of relationships and community.  He had deep relationships with his twelve disciples and spent additional time with Peter, James, and John.

Jesus models the importance of deep relationships and friendships.  However, many people today long for deep intimate friendships – even though they may have hundreds of virtual Facebook ‘friends’.

Isolation and loneliness continue to impact many people in our fast-paced and mobile world.  This challenge is heightened for ministry leaders who may travel frequently, move ministry settings or have uncertainty about boundaries for friendships within their ministry context.

LISTEN

Is your mentee encouraged by their current level of friendships?  Who are their friends?  How do these relationships bring life?  Are the relationships current? What could take these friendships to a deeper level?

If your mentee does not currently have deep friendships, explore why.  Ask if your mentee is experiencing loneliness and disconnectedness.  Are there some old friendships that could be re-energized?  Explore together next steps in developing old or new friendships.  Pray together.

PROMISE

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” Proverbs 17:17
