“Thirty Ways to Lead Different” celebrates Arrow Leadership’s 30th anniversary with a 30-week series providing insights and practical tools to help you lead with Jesus at the center.
Vision matters!
Having vision (or not) impacts how you live and lead every day.
Vision brings clarity about direction and where we need to go (and not go) in a preferred future. Vision also provides a compelling why that inspires, energizes and brings courage to overcome obstacles.
So how do you seek and discern God’s vision for yourself or your organization at a time in history that seems so incredibly VUCA—Volatile, Uncertain, Chaotic and Ambiguous?
The key is growing your vision of God.
A.W. Tozer opens his classic book, The Knowledge of the Holy by stating, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
It’s so important because what we think about God directly impacts and influences how we think, live and lead. Our vision of God is also foundational for discerning what God desires for us and for our organizations.
What difference would it make if you had a truer, bigger, fuller and clearer vision of God?
Tozer argued that it can make a huge difference. In reflecting on the Church, he wrote, “To regain her lost power, the Church must see heaven opened and have a transforming vision of God.”
That quote should stir every Christian leader to ask, “Do I have a transforming vision of God? Am I sharing it with others?”
Too often, my vision of God is distorted or too small. So, I am seeking to grow my vision of God as I read Scripture (what does this passage teach me about God’s character?), as I journal (where did I see or experience God’s character today?) and as I pray (how can I pray God’s character?). Recently, I have been working on praying two aspects of God’s character for each letter of the alphabet (spoiler alert—a couple of letters need a bit of creativity).
One of the greatest compliments you can ever receive is this one: “You’ve helped me develop a truer, bigger, clearer and fuller vision of God.”
May your vision—your vision of God—grow truer, bigger, clearer and fuller. May your vision of God frame and fuel the vision you cast in these crazy days.
Cheering you on to live and Lead Different!
