A Faithful Partner Metaphor

I love to sail! It is one of the most restorative things in my life. Brenda and I have an older sailboat and we love the experience of hoisting the sails and allowing the wind to quietly pull us through the Straight of Georgia. However, we could never enjoy this without the partner on board. Let me explain.

In nautical terms, the “partner” in a sailboat, is a wooden framework used to strengthen a ship's hull at the point where the mast goes through it. Without a hull, there is no structure or stability for movement; without a mast there is no power for movement. The partner is a critical component allowing both the hull and mast to move in a common direction. Always stationary, the “partner” is dependable to fulfill its responsibilities and allow other pieces to execute when needed.

In the same way that a partner on a sailboat is necessary for sailing, we believe that a stable, core partner base is necessary for ministry advancement and capacity building.
